I've just purchased a brand new laptop with lots of memory but can't run my CM01/02 because it says there's not enough memory and I should free up some memory.

I know this is obviously not the case so I have carefully followed the instructions in the FAQs section including Downloading ACT5.0 and trying to disable the memory check but it still won't work.

I'm hugely frustrated because like many of you I've loved this game for over a decade now and can't get started. Can anybody help please?

Followed this to the letter: http://www.champman0102.co.uk/showthread.php?1284-System-Memory-Error&p=19528#post19528

Disabled UAC and run as Administrator can sometimes get around the issue.

Hi, found the forum just today after trying unsuccessfully to play Champ Man on a second hand Windows XP laptop. (Previous laptop on which everything was hunky dory had died). With replacement laptop, main disc installs data and I get to the 'start game' point. But when I select quick start, a message
comes up saying 'we' don't have enough 'system memory'. Then later, I read about a 'patch' download to solve this lack of system memory problem......... but a search for the patch turned up message saying 'file not found'.
So....... have any of you guys and girls had this problem ??? And how can it be fixed by me, the original
'old git' technophobe ????? All I want is to get back to playing Champ Man 01/02 and previous 98/99
when I'm able to find a copy.
Anyone able to assist with a solution to this lack of 'system memory' malarky, please?

Best regards, Phil, Cardiff.

Trying again.

Hi all.......

I have a problem getting into the Champ. Man. game from the menu (Quickstart game etc).
Backgrou nd is my old, reliable laptop broke down and I replaced it with another identical model (is
windowsXP). I rebooted the game using the CM disc. got through to the menu page to use quick start game.
Instead of getting into the club selection page, I have been getting a message saying it can't play
because the 'puter does not have enough 'memory' to run the game. Yet my missus checked and found
there was plenty of memory. So it's a quandary, and I wondered A) has anyone else had this
problem?.... and B) can anyone provide a solution, please.

Any info/advice is welcome on my e-mail address..... taithdavies@hotmail.com.

Here's hoping... best wishes all.

Phil D., Cardiff.

Hi all,

When I try to start a new game I get an error message saying "Not enough available memory. Please free up some space and try again."

Given that I have umpteen GB of of free memory, I'm guessing this may be a compatibility issue or something?

Can someone help?

Sometimes system does not support some gaming applications as well as other software. This is the most common in new systems as these are not so compatible with all type of applications. If you want to solve this problem then you can take help from any technical company.

I checked the solutions on the forum but they don't work (run as administrator, the '-dontcheckram'-thingy and the Compatibility Administrator).

This is the best solution:

Another solution (originally posted by Tapani), You are supposed to be able to disable memory checking by passing either "nomemcheck" or "-dontcheckram" as command line arguments.

This involves right clicking on your CM shortcut icon, selecting properties and adding the text like this.....

31-12-13, 02:00 PM

I have started an ambitious attempt at setting up an 87/88 db using the Wasano editor (only using the 3.9.60 version of the game). I've been doing it on and off over the last couple of days and haven't had any issues. Done about half of the Premier League. However, today when I try to load up the game I'm getting the not enough memory to start a game message. I'm actually deleting loads of players as I go through which hasn't shown up an issue.

By changing the compatability to Windows 98/Me I can start the game but all of the editing I've done has disappeared.

Is there any way around this? Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

I have a problem as the title suggests, it won't let me start a game. I have gone through the Tech FAQ's, and they are slightly outdated and don't show some of the pictures. I tried downloading the Microsoft App Compatibility tool but its different to the guide, and the commands that you are meant to be able to put in aren't accompanied by a working picture.

Any help for a tech retard would be appreciated, or the correct guide with working pics would be smashing too!

Cheers in advance

Although 3gb isn't exactly a huge amount of space, you might want to invest in a bigger (external) HD for storage.

Hi guys,

Got a season into my game on my new laptop and encountered this not enough memory problem. I'm using Windows 8. I decided to see if running as administrator would be a quick fix, but when I went back into the game, my saved game had disappeared.

Is there any chance that I will get it back (maybe in a hidden folder?) or does running as administrator automatically wipe the memory? I am now going to use the tutorial to try and make the game work, but I fear it's too late for my League One and Vans Trophy double-winning Stoke game!

18-11-14, 08:28 AM

Open the link, what you have done and what is in the link are not the same.

27-11-14, 01:25 AM
This is a problem with hard drive allocation not system memory (as in RAM problem :P).

Your save data is corrupted or it's trying to save on bad sectors. As CM didn't have any sort of damage prevention (as in, programs nowadays tend to NOT write on unstable disk sectors) the save can be toast.

28-11-14, 09:54 AM
Thanks for the answer info0

Can you explain me your last expression "the save can be toast" i don't understand the meaning.

I had the problem after using CM Explorer.

Is my save dead or is there a chance to recover or repair it ?

28-11-14, 12:09 PM
You have your answer to what I meant by "save is toast." ;)

Yeah, it's most likely corrupted and unrecoverable. It's not wise to use CM Explorer. Much better to use GK Editor (also in Downloads section).

26-03-15, 04:08 PM
After the ridiculously awesome info I got from here to get CM running on my 8.1 machine, a mate has asked me to get it running on his laptop. He's getting the' not enough memory error', so rather than asking the same question and annoying people I did actually read through the tech stuff till I found the solution using the ACT5 solution.

The guide is great, I followed it step by step and got SO close, it all went well until I tried to run the file I created with the program and the computer didn't recognise the file as anything it could run? Any suggestions? It's a windows xp machine with limited service packs (service pack 5 is about the best and it won't let me install 3)

20-05-15, 03:14 PM
They don't exist in XP so you can skip those bits. You only need to create the database once like in the video, should be ok every time then.

My PC does not give me the option to run as administrator when I right click the icon, any info on how to do this?

You don't need to if you are using XP. Just follow the video tutorial without that step

I have a problem with starting the game v3.9.60 index..cpp 5773

12-08-15, 04:00 PM
You've added a data update with installing the 3.9.68 patch

26-08-15, 11:13 PM
Hello guys, when i tried to start my saved game I get this error Unable to write data to disk
Debug info: v3.9.68T Setup... cp 9090 (load_game_data): Unable to unpack the temporary files

27-08-15, 01:01 AM
Go to the search bar, top right of page and search for 9090 :ok:

Hello all,

I just signed up here after downloading 01/02 after several years not playing.

However, I have an issue with the storage capacity. I try to save my file but it says I do not have enough space to save it.
I checked my computer, and I have several GB left, so I assume it is something else. I have only played a couple of months with 7 leagues, so that should nto be the problem.

Anyone experienced the same problem?

Think I found it in the FAQ.

Please close the thread.

Did it again dermo,
i had deffo done it before though, hence the reason when i done all the testing it NEVER crashed and could run all they leagues for ages.

24-11-15, 09:33 PM
I have followed the procedure in http://www.champman0102.co.uk/showthread.php?t=600

The first time I have done what is described in the link CM01/02 works... but when I comeback to play if I load the stored game or if I start a new one, it doesn't work. It appears: "Insert the CD and press OK"
What can I do??
Thank you in advance

25-11-15, 02:06 AM

Right click on the Cm0102 Iso image, re-mount

Morning all,

I've got the same memory issue too. I've tried downloading that Toolkit but when I run it, it demands access to an SQL Server but can't find one.
Any thoughts?

I think your post may of been merged into this thread LordPesk so have a read from the opening post :ok:

Hi There,

I've followed all the threads succesfully, completed 1 season in a network game with two friends. Just as we're nearing the second season however the host machine gets the dreaded message:

there is not enough system memory, and to free some memory space.

Our thoughts were, lets exit as we had auto saves on weekly. However when we go to load, the save file no longer exists!!! This equals 3 grown men nearly in tears last night!

Is there any hope? PLEASE tell me there is!

WIlling to pay good money for a solution! Hahaha!

29-05-16, 05:44 PM
Somebody will reply I'm sure, but Sundays are always quite around here. Just to let you know somebody's read your post at least.

29-05-16, 05:51 PM
Thank you! I will keep my fingers crossed. I cant see anything about where network save files live. Seems strange that they would just delete!

29-05-16, 07:44 PM
Might be worth checking out the Network section

Can't say I've ever played a network game myself but are you saying the game no longer sees the save game file?

Is it looking in correct place? Maybe try copying save game to a different area (e.g desktop) and choose to search for the gam from there?

Otherwise - a few threads about saved games here - e.g - http://champman0102.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1146&highlight=save+game+queries

08-11-16, 10:28 PM
I have tried a few of the fixes but no joy..

Is my save game gone ??

08-11-16, 11:27 PM
check these out but I think they are more related to memory issue which do not allow you to load up game

and here

Hopefully one of the guys here can help - would be a shame if you lost the game :(

08-11-16, 11:51 PM
I would be gutted as i feel cheating now that i know who to sign etc but if its too be its too be..

I have tried all of them and had no joy sadly..

09-11-16, 12:01 AM
have a look through this?

Tried and followed all the above,

Im going to have to bite the bullet and quit that save and start a new one.. Gutted really as i was doing well and flying high but its not the first time a save has gone roque on me..

Just a wonder does this happen due to the amount of leagues you have running ?
What is the recommended memory setting in one of the lists they show low numbers could that be increased ? 336 - 672 etc

10-11-16, 01:25 AM
Not sure if amount of leagues is linked to this error but I know that sometimes problem when choosing USA (and maybe France)

10-11-16, 10:10 AM
I always have France as a Background,

I will admit i had the USA on this save dont normally !

Guys I've windows 8 can anyone help me? Constantly starting new games. Haven't applied any updates as the games perfect the way it is I just cant load saved game. the compatibility toolkit is outdated

09-03-17, 06:05 PM
It's outdated but the latest version with do the same thing

Go here - http://www.microsoft.com/en-ie/download/details.aspx?id=7352&a03ffa40-ca8b-4f73-0358-c191d75a7468=True&e6b34bbe-475b-1abd-2c51-b5034bcdd6d2=True
Expand Related Resources
Selected Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK) for Windows 10 and let the file download
Run the file
On the Select Features to install select Application Compatibility Tools

You should be able to copy the system memory guide from there.

Alternatively update Win8 to Win10 and there's no issue
